  • Product Overview

The HJ4610 is a single mechanical seal supplied in a cartridge configuration. The assembly incorporates the sealing components, sleeve and gland to simplify handling and installation compared with separately fitted component seals.

The O-ring pusher design accommodates face wear and limited axial movement through the spring-loaded sealing assembly. Seal face materials, secondary seals and metal components are selected according to the process fluid and operating conditions.

For replacement enquiries, compare the complete cartridge dimensions with the existing seal and pump installation. A matching model designation or shaft diameter alone does not establish compatibility.

Dimensions are transcribed from the HJ4610 supplier table. D4 is identified as the seal chamber box-bore range. Interpret D26, L90, L91, N and M using the matching supplier drawing.

These tables are catalogue references, not approved manufacturing drawings. Differences from the original seal dimensions must be reviewed before replacement approval.

  • Typical Applications
Service Candidate Equipment
Water and Wastewater Compatible process and circulation pumps
Chemical Processing Suitable chemical transfer and process pumps
General Industrial Service Compatible horizontal and vertical pump installations
Oil Handling Suitable lubricated liquid-service pump duties
Pulp and Paper Compatible process and circulation applications

Suitability depends on the fluid, solids content, pressure, temperature, speed and installation arrangement.

Drinking-water, food-processing and pharmaceutical duties require configuration-specific material and compliance documentation. Abrasive slurry, crystallising fluids and gas service require a separate application review.

  • John Crane Type 4610 Replacement Compatibility

The Formax HJ4610 is offered for selected John Crane Type 4610 replacement applications. Confirm dimensional fit and the operating envelope for the exact configuration before ordering.

A shared model reference does not establish direct interchangeability. Review the shaft fit, seal chamber bore, axial installation space, gland geometry, mounting arrangement and flush connections.

Compatibility Check Information Required
Existing Seal Complete model, size code and material specification
Shaft or Sleeve Diameter, fit and available installation length
Seal Chamber Bore diameter, depth and relevant clearances
Gland Mounting Bolt arrangement, mounting dimensions and available space
Cartridge Dimensions D26, L90, L91, N and M, as defined by the supplier drawing
Flush Connections Port size, thread, position and required piping arrangement
Operating Duty Fluid, pressure, temperature, shaft speed and solids content
Documentation Equipment drawing, existing seal drawing or measured photographs

Type 4620P dual-seal configurations require a separate product selection and must not be treated as the same assembly as the single-seal HJ4610.

  • Frequently Asked Questions
Question Answer
Is HJ4610 a single or dual cartridge seal? This page covers the HJ4610 single cartridge seal. Dual-seal enquiries require a separately specified assembly.
Is it a bellows seal? No. The HJ4610 is an O-ring pusher cartridge seal.
What sizes are listed? The supplier tables cover selected metric sizes from 24 to 70 mm and inch sizes from 1.000 to 2.750 inches.
Is the speed limit 3600 rpm? The HJ4610 supplier lists a sliding velocity limit of 15 m/s. Confirm permissible rpm for the selected face diameter and configuration.
Does the original seal’s NSF-61 statement apply to this replacement? No. Any required drinking-water compliance documentation must be confirmed for the actual supplied product.
Can this seal directly replace every Type 4610 assembly? No blanket interchangeability is claimed. Installation dimensions, materials and operating conditions must be checked for the exact application.
