Cartex-DN Dual Cartridge Mechanical Seal – Replacement for EagleBurgmann Cartex Dual Seals

The Formax HJCartex-DN is a dual cartridge mechanical seal for industrial pump maintenance and replacement applications.
Available in shaft sizes from 25 to 100 mm, it offers carbon, silicon carbide and tungsten carbide seal face options, together with application-specific elastomers and metal components.
For EagleBurgmann Cartex-DN replacement enquiries, selection is based on the existing seal drawing, installation dimensions, process conditions and seal support system.

Product Introduction

The HJCartex-DN combines two sealing stages in a cartridge assembly for applications requiring a dual mechanical seal arrangement. Its cartridge format simplifies installation by bringing the seal components together as one assembly.

Material selection can be adapted to the pumped liquid, operating temperature, pressure and lubrication conditions. The seal is intended for assessment in centrifugal pumps, process pumps and suitable packing conversion projects.

Replacement suitability must be checked against the complete installation. Matching the shaft diameter alone does not establish interchangeability.

Metric sizes and nominal inch sizes are separate specifications. A 25 mm shaft must not be treated as a 1-inch shaft.

  • Applications

The HJCartex-DN can be assessed for industrial liquid-handling applications requiring a dual cartridge seal.

Industry or Equipment Typical Enquiry
Chemical processing Process-liquid transfer and circulation pumps
Water and wastewater Suitable pump duties requiring a dual seal arrangement
Pulp and paper Process and stock pump applications, subject to solids review
Power generation Auxiliary process and circulation pumps
General manufacturing Pump maintenance and replacement projects
Packing conversions Existing equipment with sufficient installation space
Centrifugal and process pumps Drawing-based cartridge seal replacement

Fluid compatibility, solids content, lubrication requirements and operating conditions must be reviewed for each application. Food, pharmaceutical, drinking-water and hazardous-area services require application-specific materials and documentation.

  • Seal Support System Requirements

A dual mechanical seal must be selected together with its support system. Confirm the intended seal arrangement, support-fluid pressure, circulation requirements, cooling duty and venting provisions before installation.

Selection Item Information Required
Seal arrangement Pressurized barrier or unpressurized buffer operation, where approved for the supplied design
Support fluid Fluid identity, viscosity and compatibility
Pressure Process pressure, support-fluid pressure and transient conditions
Circulation Required flow and available circulation method
Cooling Operating temperature and heat-removal requirements
Connections Port size, thread standard, position and flow direction
Monitoring Pressure, temperature, level and leakage requirements

Confirm whether the supplied HJ assembly includes an internal pumping device. The support system must match the actual seal construction.

  • Replacement for EagleBurgmann Cartex-DN

The HJCartex-DN is offered for assessment as an aftermarket replacement for selected EagleBurgmann Cartex-DN installations.

A replacement review should cover:

Existing seal model, suffix and drawing number.

Shaft or sleeve diameter.

Seal chamber dimensions and available axial space.

Gland mounting pattern and clearances.

Connection threads and orientation.

Seal face and elastomer materials.

Process pressure, temperature and shaft speed.

Support system configuration and operating pressures.

The Cartex-DN reference does not establish compatibility with Cartex-SN, Cartex-GSDN, Cartex-Vario, Cartex ANSI or eCartex versions.

  • Standards and Documentation

The supplier references ISO 3069, DIN 24960 and GB 6556 in its product literature. Installation suitability should be established using the approved seal drawing and the equipment’s actual dimensions.

Any required material certificates, inspection records, test reports or application-specific compliance documents should be specified with the enquiry.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

Is HJCartex-DN a single or dual cartridge seal?

HJCartex-DN is a dual cartridge mechanical seal. HJCartex-SN is the separate single cartridge model.

Can it replace an EagleBurgmann Cartex-DN seal?

It can be assessed for selected replacement applications. Confirm the complete installation drawing, material specification and operating conditions before ordering.

What sizes are listed?

The supplier’s metric table lists 24 shaft sizes from 25 to 100 mm. Inch-size availability requires separate confirmation.

Can every material combination operate at 204°C and 23 m/s?

No. Each configuration has its own operating limits. Seal faces, elastomers, liquid properties, pressure and cooling conditions must be evaluated together.

Can the seal run dry?

Dry-running capability is not established for this HJ product. Confirm the required lubrication and support-fluid conditions before operation.

Can it replace gland packing?

A packing conversion can be reviewed where the seal chamber, gland mounting and available installation space are suitable.
