- Product Overview
The MG1 mechanical seal combines an elastomer bellows with a single spring to maintain contact between the rotating seal face and stationary seat. The bellows provides secondary sealing and transmits torque to the rotating assembly.
The compact, unitised design simplifies handling and installation in compatible pump equipment. The bellows geometry provides flexibility for limited axial movement and helps accommodate minor shaft deflection within the approved installation limits.
The bellows profile is designed to resist creasing or folding under the intended operating conditions. Correct installation and material selection remain essential for reliable operation.

- Typical Applications
| Industry or Service | Typical Equipment |
|---|---|
| Water Supply | Water pumps and compatible distribution equipment |
| Water and Wastewater Treatment | Wastewater pumps and suitable submersible pumps |
| Chemical Processing | Compatible standard chemical and transfer pumps |
| Pulp and Paper | Suitable stock pumps and circulation equipment |
| General Process Industry | Circulating pumps and helical screw pumps |
| Oil Handling | Compatible oil-transfer and circulation duties |
| Food, Beverage and Sugar Processing | Suitable pump installations with verified wetted materials |
Equipment type alone does not establish suitability. Review the fluid, seal chamber, operating conditions and material combination for each application.
- Media & Solids Handling
Candidate media include water, wastewater, selected oils, latex and compatible chemical liquids. Dilute slurry and pulp duties require a review of solids concentration, particle size, abrasiveness and fibre characteristics.
The supplier lists slurry concentrations up to 5% by weight and pulp concentrations up to 4%. These are application references rather than universal handling guarantees. Confirm the pulp concentration measurement basis and complete duty before selection.
Food-contact, drinking-water and hygienic applications require configuration-specific material documentation.
- EagleBurgmann MG1 Replacement Compatibility
The Formax MG1 is offered for selected EagleBurgmann MG1 replacement applications. Verify the exact dimensions, stationary seat arrangement, working height, materials and operating duty before ordering.
Enquiries referencing eMG1, MG12, MG13 or other related variants require separate verification. A common family name does not establish dimensional or performance equivalence.

- Frequently Asked Questions
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is MG1 a rubber bellows or metal bellows seal? | It is an elastomer, or rubber, bellows mechanical seal. Its metal spring and retainers do not make it a metal bellows seal. |
| Is this MG1 direction-dependent? | No. The specified design operates independently of shaft rotation direction. |
| What shaft sizes are listed? | The supplied dimensional table covers selected shaft diameters from 10 to 100 mm. Several seat-related dimensions require confirmation for the 15, 19 and 42 mm entries. |
| Is this the same product as EagleBurgmann eMG1? | No. It is a Formax MG1 replacement offering with its own supplier specification. eMG1 dimensions, ratings and approvals must not be assumed to apply. |
| Can it handle slurry or pulp? | Selected dilute slurry and pulp duties may be considered after reviewing solids concentration, particle properties, lubrication and operating conditions. |
| What information is needed for a quotation? | Provide the existing seal designation, dimensions, materials, fluid, pressure, temperature, shaft speed and quantity. |
