HR Single Cartridge Mechanical Seals – Replacement for EagleBurgmann HR

The Formax HJHR mechanical seal is offered for selected EagleBurgmann HR replacement applications in industrial pumps. Material options include carbon graphite, reaction-bonded silicon carbide, sintered silicon carbide and tungsten carbide, with elastomers and metal components selected for the service conditions.

The supplier’s dimension table covers sizes from 20 to 250 mm under the Size/d1 designation. Replacement selection requires confirmation of the installation arrangement and all relevant drawing dimensions.

  • Product Introduction

HJHR is a mechanical seal replacement option for pump maintenance and refurbishment projects involving HR-type installations.

Selection considers the pump configuration, installation direction, seal chamber geometry, process liquid and operating conditions. For abrasive or solids-containing liquids, the review should also include particle size, solids concentration, settling behaviour and lubrication at the seal faces.

The supplied assembly must be matched to the existing installation. The HR family reference alone does not establish interchangeability with every HR variant.

Application Selection Considerations
Wastewater pumps Solids content, fibres, contaminants and operating cycles
Slurry and suspension pumps Particle size, abrasiveness, concentration and settling
Pulp and paper pumps Fibre content, process chemistry and lubrication
Chemical process pumps Chemical compatibility, temperature and pressure
Mining and mineral-processing pumps Abrasive wear, slurry properties and pump configuration
FGD suspension pumps Process chemistry, solids and corrosion conditions
Dredging equipment Severe abrasion and installation-specific requirements
General industrial pumps Existing seal geometry and operating conditions

Application suitability requires a review of the actual service conditions. No universal solids concentration or dry-running capability is implied.

Dimensions are for preliminary selection. Confirm all dimensions, fits, tolerances and installation details against an approved manufacturing drawing before ordering.

  • Replacement Selection

For an EagleBurgmann HR replacement enquiry, provide the full existing seal designation and installation drawing.

The review should establish:

  • Whether installation is from the impeller side or bearing side.
  • The meaning and values of d1, d1h and dN on the existing drawing.
  • The required component or cartridge configuration.
  • Available radial and axial installation space.
  • Seal face materials and secondary seal compounds.
  • Process pressure, temperature and shaft speed.
  • Solids concentration, particle size and abrasiveness.
  • Flush, quench and vacuum operating requirements.

HR10, HR11, HR2, HR3, HRZ1 and HRKS-D must be assessed as distinct configurations.

  • Installation and Operating Considerations

Correct installation depends on the supplied assembly and pump design. Confirm the installation direction, setting dimensions, axial movement and clearances before fitting the seal.

For vacuum operation, establish the atmosphere-side quench requirement for the selected configuration. Operation without external flushing must be approved for the actual liquid, solids loading and seal construction.

Dry-running capability is not established by the HJHR designation.

  • Standards and Documentation

The HJ supplier references ISO 3069, DIN 24960 and GB 6556 in its product literature. These references do not establish interchangeability with every pump or HR variant.

Specify required drawings, material certificates, inspection reports and application-specific documentation with the enquiry.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

Can HJHR replace an EagleBurgmann HR seal?

HJHR can be assessed for selected HR replacement applications. The existing seal configuration, installation dimensions, materials and service conditions must be matched before ordering.

Is HJHR always a cartridge seal?

The HJ supplier describes the product as a cartridge mechanical seal, but the supplied dimension table alone does not identify a specific HR cartridge variant. Confirm the actual assembly drawing and scope of supply.

Why are both 20–250 mm and 36–270 mm shown?

These ranges refer to different drawing symbols. In the supplied table, Size/d1 ranges from 20 to 250 mm, while dN ranges from 36 to 270 mm. Quote the symbol together with its value.

Is the seal suitable for slurry service?

Suitability depends on the particle size, concentration, abrasiveness, settling behaviour and lubrication conditions. Provide the slurry details for material and configuration selection.

Can the seal operate without flushing?

This requires application-specific approval. A no-flush claim must be supported by the supplied seal construction and actual process conditions.
